Christian Quote of the Day — John Calvin | October 26, 2026

John Calvin wrote these words while commenting on Psalm 112:7.

The verse describes a person whose heart remains steadfast even when troubling news arrives.

Calvin focuses on the reason such steadiness is possible:

Confidence in the care of God.

Difficult news can quickly pull our thoughts toward fear.

We begin imagining outcomes.

We wonder what will happen next.

We feel pressure to solve things that may not yet be within our control.

But trust offers another response.

We can acknowledge what has happened without allowing fear to become the foundation beneath us.

Calvin describes this as calmly and peacefully relying upon God’s paternal care.

That does not mean indifference.

It means remembering that our circumstances are not outside the knowledge or care of God.

Troubling news may reach us.

God’s care reaches us too.

And that gives the heart somewhere steady to rest.
