Give It to God — Psalm 55:22

Some things become heavier the longer we carry them.

A concern.

A responsibility.

A disappointment.

A situation we cannot control.

We may tell ourselves that we simply need to be stronger, think harder, or somehow work everything out.

Psalm 55:22 gives us another response:

Psalm 55:22

“Cast your burden on the LORD and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved.”
— Psalm 55:22 WEBU

Reflection / Encouragement

The first instruction is simple:

“Cast your burden on the LORD.”

That requires us to admit that something is heavy.

Faith does not require pretending that a burden weighs nothing.

Instead, it gives us somewhere to take it.

We bring it to God.

We pray honestly.

We release the need to carry everything only in our own strength.

Then comes the promise:

“he will sustain you.”

Notice that the verse does not necessarily say the burden will immediately disappear.

Sometimes God changes the situation.

Sometimes he changes the way forward.

And sometimes he gives us strength to continue walking through something that remains difficult.

But in every case, our confidence is not only in our ability to carry the weight.

God sustains us.

The final words give another assurance:

“He will never allow the righteous to be moved.”

The burden may be real.

The pressure may be real.

But God is able to keep us from being carried away by what we face.

If something feels heavy today, bring it to him.

You do not have to deny the burden.

You do not have to carry it alone.

Cast it on the LORD and trust him to sustain you.

A Quiet Moment

If something feels heavy today, take a quiet moment to place it into God’s hands.
