CHRISTIAN QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Thou, Lord, Thou shalt have all the burden! At Thy bidding, as Thy servant I go forward, leaving results with Thee.”

— Hudson Taylor

Source: Hudson Taylor and the China Inland Mission: The Growth of a Work of God — account of his Brighton experience, June 25, 1865

These words come from a significant moment in Hudson Taylor’s life.

In 1865, Taylor was wrestling with the enormous responsibility of expanding missionary work into inland China.

The task felt overwhelming.

The needs were immense.

And Taylor felt the weight of what might happen if he moved forward.

During a time alone on the beach at Brighton, his perspective changed.

He realised that obedience was his responsibility, but the ultimate results belonged to God.

That led to his prayer:

“Thou, Lord, Thou shalt have all the burden!”

There is an important difference between responsibility and control.

We are responsible to obey.

To act wisely.

To take the next faithful step.

But we are not able to control every outcome.

Trying to carry both obedience and results can turn responsibility into a crushing burden.

Faith allows us to separate the two.

We can do what is ours to do.

And we can leave what belongs to God in his hands.

Hudson Taylor moved forward from that moment with a renewed sense of peace.

His words still offer a useful reminder today:

Take the faithful step.

Leave the burden of results with God.

Quote Reflection

There is a difference between faithful responsibility and carrying a weight God never asked us to hold alone.

Hudson Taylor’s words remind us that we can obey, take the next step, and leave the burden of results in God’s hands.
