Every Good Gift Comes from God — James 1:17
There are good things in our lives that can become so familiar that we stop noticing them.
A person who cares about us.
Food on the table.
A quiet moment.
An answered prayer.
A new opportunity.
Strength for another day.
James 1:17 invites us to look beyond the gift and remember the Giver:
James 1:17
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation nor turning shadow.”

Reflection / Encouragement
Every good gift is “from above.”
That means gratitude ultimately leads us toward God.
The verse then gives him a beautiful name:
“The Father of lights.”
The sun, moon, and stars appear to us with changing light and shadow.
But James contrasts that change with the character of God.
“With whom can be no variation nor turning shadow.”
God does not move between goodness and something else.
His character is steady.
His goodness does not depend upon the day we are having.
And that gives us another reason to trust the gifts that truly come from him.
Sometimes gratitude begins simply by paying attention.
We stop long enough to notice what we might otherwise overlook.
We remember that something good did not have to be ours.
And then we look beyond the gift toward the One who gave it.
Take a moment today to notice something good.
Thank God for it.
And remember that behind every good gift stands the unchanging goodness of the Giver.
A Quiet Moment
Take a quiet moment today to notice one of God’s good gifts and thank him for it.
