Christian Quote of the Day — James Smith | November 4, 2026
CHRISTIAN QUOTE OF THE DAY
“His hand is stretched out to us, and it is for faith to lay hold of it and proceed, confident of assistance.”
— James Smith
Source: The Believer’s Daily Remembrancer — reflection on Isaiah 41:13
James Smith wrote these words while reflecting on Isaiah 41:13.
That verse gives us a tender picture of God holding the hand of his people and saying:
“Don’t be afraid. I will help you.”
Smith develops that picture by describing God’s hand as already stretched out toward us.
The help begins with God.
He reaches toward us.
Faith responds.
It “lays hold” of what God has promised.
There are many times when we would prefer to know exactly how everything ahead will unfold before we move forward.
But faith rarely receives that kind of certainty.
Instead, we receive something better:
The assurance that God will help us.
That allows us to take the next step without pretending that we know every step after it.
We proceed because God is faithful.
We continue because his hand is extended.
And we face uncertainty knowing that assistance does not depend only upon our own strength.
Quote Reflection
Faith does not require us to know every detail of the road before we move forward.
James Smith reminds us that God’s helping hand is already extended toward us. We can take hold of his promise and continue with confidence that we are not proceeding alone.
